The Grange picture house was on the corner of Grange Road and Coventry road. The two films being shown here are "Untamed" released in 1955 and "Teenage rebel" released in 1956 so this photo was probably taken in 1956/7.
The Coronet was on the corner of watts Road and Coventry road and was owned by the same company that owned the Grange. The film being shown was released in 1946 so the pic was probably taken in 1946/7. It closed in the early 60s and was demolished.
The Elite on Bordesley Green. It opened in 1917 and closed in the late 40s or early 50s. When we were kids it was derelict and one of our favourite playgrounds
The Green Lane Picture House on the corner of Green Lane and Victoria Street . It first opened in 1914 and was modernised in 1935 and renamed the New Green Lane, which was a bit pointless as everyone still called it the Bughole!
The building is still there and is now a household goods shop.
The Kingston was on the corner of Kingston Hill and St Andrews Road. It opened in 1935 and closed in 1968. After that it served as a bingo hall for many years and then as a muslim meeting place or mosque. it was finally demolished in 2005
The Piccadilly was on the Stratford road in Sparkhill. It opened in 1930 and closed as an english cinema in 1972. It carried on for some years an asian cinema and then as a bingo hall but was finally demolished.
