NELSON

 .

The Nelson was on the corner of Grange Rd. and Baker St. a few doors away from our house so it was the Local for all our family and neighbours.

It was the first pub I ever went into ( but not the last ) It closed in 1968 and was demolished

This was the Greenway Pub on the corner of Cattell Road and Coventry Road. Famous for the horse trough outside which is shown in the picture.
I don't know when the photo was taken but since there were trams and motor buses at the same time I would think it was early 50s? The pub was shut in the 60s and the name was taken by the Oxford Arms which was on the corner of Greenway Street and Coventry Road, confusing ain't it? Anyway that too is now gone but the horse trough lives on at Sarehole Mill!.
